Practical guide · cost per wear
Cost per wear: a simple way to read value in your closet
Cost per wear is the purchase price of a clothing item divided by the number of times you have worn it. ClosetCheck calculates it for priced items with at least one logged wear and surfaces the result in Pro Insights.
Three steps to make it useful
- 1. Record the purchase price and choose your display currency.
- 2. Log each wear from the Today dashboard.
- 3. Read the trend in Pro Insights rather than treating one early calculation as a final answer.
The calculation
The formula is purchase price ÷ wear count = cost per wear. A $120 jacket worn 6 times has a $20 cost per wear. The number is a lens, not a verdict; it becomes more useful as your wear history grows.
How to get a meaningful number
Add the purchase price in the item record, choose the currency you want in Settings, and mark the piece worn from Today. Pro Insights can show an average across priced pieces you have worn, plus best-value and needs-more-wears signals.
Use it before buying
Cost per wear works best alongside the closet inventory and wear history. If you already own a similar piece with a low wear count, Pro Shopping Check can help you pause and inspect duplicate risk before adding another item.
